Types of teeth implants

Bagatin Polyclinic uses modern implantology methods (primarily Straumann implants) to restore the functionality and aesthetics of patients' smiles - without exposing neighboring teeth, with high stability and longevity.

Description of the procedure

Implant-supported restorations include various prosthetic systems on implants, depending on the number and arrangement of fillings:

  • Crown on a single implant – to replace one tooth

  • Small implant bridge – to replace three lost teeth

  • Semicircular or complete bridge (“All-on-X”) – for multiple or all extracted teeth

During the examination and planning, the condition of the bone is taken into account, and after osseointegration (fusion of the implant with the bone), precise impressions are taken for the creation of a ceramic restoration.

Preparation

Preparation includes:

  • Detailed dental examination – a specialist implantologist analyzes the condition of the teeth, gums, and jawbone.

  • Radiological diagnostics – CBCT (3D scan) allows for precise planning of implant position, checking bone density and height.

  • General health assessment – the patient is advised to list all chronic diseases, therapies and possible allergies. Some systemic diseases (eg diabetes) require additional monitoring before the procedure.

  • Therapy plan – an individual plan is drawn up: number of implants, type of prosthetic work, possible need for bone augmentation or sinus lift.

  • Instructions on diet and hygiene – the patient receives instructions on hygienic preparation of the oral cavity before the procedure (antiseptic liquids, thorough washing).

  • Medications and habits – if you take anticoagulants, corticosteroids, or smoke, it is necessary to specifically adjust your therapy and postoperative measures.

The preparation is individual and thorough because it enables safe and predictable implant placement with long-term results.

Procedure progress

Surgical implant placement

  • Once the preparation and planning is complete, the implantologist surgically places the titanium implant into the jawbone.

  • The procedure takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes per implant and is performed under sterile conditions.

  • If necessary, bone augmentation (bone building) or a sinus lift can be performed at the same time.

2. Osseointegration process

  • The implant “integrates” with the bone over the next 3 to 6 months – this process is called osseointegration .

  • During this time, the patient can wear a temporary prosthetic solution (temporary crown or bridge).

3. Installation of the suprastructure (abutment)

  • After the implant is stably integrated, a suprastructure is placed on it – a connecting part that carries the future crown or bridge.

  • In some cases, the suprastructure is placed in the first phase, depending on the type of implant and the quality of the bone.

4. Making and placing prosthetic work

  • A dental crown, bridge or denture is made and placed on the suprastructure, depending on the treatment plan.

  • The creation of a prosthetic replacement is based on digital impressions and precise adjustment of the color, shape and function of the teeth.

  • The final work provides a natural appearance, stability and functionality – like your own tooth.

Implant placement is a safe and routine procedure, and thanks to modern technologies, recovery is quick and the results are long-lasting.

Recovery

Recovery after dental implants is individual and in most cases is quick and without complications. Here’s what you can expect:

  • After the procedure : Mild pain, swelling, and tenderness at the site of the procedure may occur for the first 24 to 72 hours. This is common and can be easily controlled with analgesics as recommended by the dentist.

  • First 2 weeks : The tissue around the implant gradually heals. A soft diet, avoiding chewing on the side of the procedure, and increased oral hygiene are recommended.

  • After 7 days : Sutures are usually removed (if they are not resorbable).

  • Osseointegration : Over the next 3 to 6 months, the implant fuses with the bone. During this period, it is important to have regular check-ups to monitor progress.

In most cases, patients can return to their daily activities the day after the procedure, provided they follow the doctor’s recommendations.

Precautions

In order for the entire implantation process to be successful and to avoid possible complications, it is important to adhere to the following precautions:

  • Do not touch the operated area with your tongue or fingers as this may slow healing.

  • Avoid smoking , especially during the first few weeks – nicotine negatively affects circulation and can slow down the fusion of the implant with the bone.

  • Do not consume alcohol and very hot foods/pizza for 24 hours after the procedure.

  • Cold compresses can help with swelling in the first 48 hours.

  • Avoid physical exertion and sports for at least a few days after the procedure.

  • Enhanced oral hygiene : gentle brushing of teeth with a soft toothbrush, antiseptic mouthwashes (as recommended by the dentist) and avoiding aggressive mouth rinsing in the first few days.

  • Regular check-ups : It is important to attend all scheduled check-ups to monitor the condition of the implants and surrounding tissues.

Following all instructions is crucial for the long-term success of implant therapy and dental implants.

I live in Sweden, and I'm currently on vacation in Croatia. A problem arose yesterday. An awkward meeting of the four on the left above and - crack. I call my former dentist. She's on vacation, but she recommends the Bagatin Polyclinic. Aren't they the ones that the famous and rich go to? I get an appointment for tomorrow morning, but I'm skeptical. They're probably just after crowns and implants. Wrong!!! The doctor who saw me is a very cool dentist. I emphasize, dentist. That means a doctor who puts your needs first. He listened to me and helped me completely in accordance with what I asked of him. Professionally, thoughtfully and carefully. And he even managed to make me laugh. Well done! Thanks to that, I will definitely keep the Bagatin Polyclinic in mind if I decide to have any serious dental procedures in Croatia. Thank you to the Bagatin Polyclinic and Dr. Radić!

1. What is a dental implant?

A dental abutment is an artificial structure that is placed on a tooth root or implant to replace a lost part of the tooth and as a basis for placing a crown.

Post-treatments are used for major damage to a natural tooth, after endodontic treatment (nerve extraction), or as part of implant therapy when an implant is being built up.

3. Is the procedure painful?

The procedure itself is performed under local anesthesia and is completely painless. Mild discomfort may occur after the procedure, which is easily controlled with analgesics.

4. How long does the installation process take?

The installation of the abutment itself takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the type of abutment and the complexity of the case. The entire process may involve multiple visits – including diagnostics, preparation, and the final crown.

5. How long does recovery take?

Most patients recover within a few days. In the case of implantological extensions, a period of fusion of the implant with the bone (osseointegration) is required, which lasts 3 to 6 months.
