Chemical peeling

Chemical peels are a combination of art and science.
They are an excellent method for treating acne, acne scars, hyperpigmentation spots, for reducing shallow wrinkles, and can also be used to refresh facial skin.
With chemical peeling, we remove old skin cells and thereby stimulate the growth of new skin cells, making them shinier, healthier, and more beautiful.

Description of the procedure

At the Bagatin Clinic, we use chemical peeling as a separate treatment, but also as a preparation or complement to other treatments. We use professional peels from two top manufacturers – ZO Signature Peels and Mesoestetic peels .

ZO Signature Peels are chemical peels with the signature of the leading dermatologist from Beverly Hills, dr. Zeina Obagia. They are designed to treat a wide range of skin problems including sun damage, hyperpigmentation, uneven texture, ‘lifeless skin’, wrinkles and acne. ZO professional peels are key to improving the results of existing therapeutic protocols.

The Bagatin Polyclinic offers the following professional peels performed by dermatologists and/or medical cosmetologists trained and educated by Zo Skin Helath experts:

ZO Ultra Hydration – a treatment designed specifically for dry, dehydrated skin to restore relief, hydration, and a smooth texture.

ZO Invisapeel Recurfacing – a non-recovery peel designed for all skin types, even the most sensitive. The treatment provides gentle exfoliation that instantly removes dullness, restores moisture, reduces discoloration, and evens out skin tone.

ZO Acne & Oil-Control – treatment for acne and control of excess oil on the skin, promotes skin cleansing and prevents acne breakouts.

ZO Brightening – a skin lightening treatment that solves skin pigmentation problems and helps eliminate dark spots and uneven skin tone.

ZO Stimulator Peel – the so-called Red Carpet peeling is intended for skin that appears lifeless and rough. New unique exfoliating ingredients renew and refresh the skin. It is ideal for clients who do not want the recovery that occurs after classic peelings (peeling, redness).

ZO 3-Step Peel – a powerful peel that improves the texture of the skin and provides longer-lasting results than usual peels, and is ideal for solving the problem of melasma (a form of hyperpigmentation that appears on the face). ZO 3-Step Peel penetrates the epidermis and upper dermis, treating various skin conditions and significantly improving its health. This peeling is performed exclusively by doctors.

Mesoestetic chemical peels are the proud winners of the ‘BEST PEEL OF THE YEAR’ award for two years in a row. In our Polyclinic you can find peels with glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, mandelic acid, as well as the AZELAN and Modified Jessner peel chemical peels.

Each of these peels is tailored to different skin needs, and our top experts will advise you on which peel is best for your skin.

Mesoestetic peels have multiple and beneficial effects:

  • Restores natural freshness to the skin
  • They improve the structure of the epidermis and strengthen the natural barrier function of the skin
  • They noticeably smooth the skin surface and reduce relief irregularities (for example, acne scars)
  • Evens out skin tone
  • They alleviate hyperpigmentation
  • Stimulates the synthesis of collagen and hyaluronic acid
  • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and firms the skin

In general, according to the depth of action in the skin, we distinguish between very superficial, superficial, medium-deep and deep chemical peels:

  • VERY SURFACE PEELING acts on the most superficial part of the epidermis, i.e. the layer of dead skin cells that peels off invisibly;
  • SURFACE PEELING works within the epidermis without penetrating its deeper layers;
  • MEDIUM DEEP PEELING goes all the way to the dermoepidermal boundary;
  • DEEP PEELING also works in the dermis.

The effect of the peeling on the skin is modulated by the doctor and individually adjusted to each patient depending on the indications. In this way, with a combination of a therapeutic series of several peelings, it is possible to obtain an excellent skin rejuvenation effect, without irritation and without restrictions in everyday life.

The improvement and refreshment of the skin is achieved gradually and appears completely natural. The final result is visible a few weeks after the last peeling, but constant progress is visible day by day.

Good therapeutic effect, ease of implementation, and minimal side effects make this treatment a favorite among our clients and doctors.

Candidates

The ideal candidate is anyone who wants to improve the texture and moisture of their skin, achieve a youthful appearance, remove wrinkles, or improve pigmentation disorders.

Almost anyone can undergo a chemical peel as long as they do not have certain characteristics that are contraindicated for peels, such as skin diseases that damage the skin barrier (wounds from infection, atopic dermatitis, etc.).

The doctor will apply a peel that will be appropriate for their skin type. This is because very strong chemical peels can cause more severe hyperpigmentation on darker skin.

Doctors at the Bagatin Polyclinic will examine you and make the best decision about choosing a peel for your skin.

Preparation

Before deciding on a procedure, doctors at the Bagatin Polyclinic may suggest specific skin care or other pre-procedure procedures. All of this is preceded by a Visia analysis that will provide insight into the current condition of the facial skin.

Chemical peeling always begins with a preparation phase, which involves applying the first layer of lotion to relax the skin and prepare it for the action of the acids. We want to achieve a certain pH of the skin, so cleansing the skin of oil and impurities is essential.

Chemical peeling can be performed separately, depending on the problem and the doctor’s decision. It can also be supplemented with various facial treatments, again depending on the problem and the doctor’s recommendation. Previously with Reviderm Skin Peeler microdermabrasion , while later you can go for laser treatments or mesotherapy .

In any case, let your doctor take care of your skin and the treatments that are ideal for you, and be honest about what products you use at home. It is important not to use products that are not complementary to this procedure, such as vitamin A or certain other acids.

Procedure progress

After the preparatory cleansing phase, the chemical peeling procedure itself follows.

Previously, the lips and eyelids can be protected with a greasy cream, just in case. The peeling is applied to the face with a brush, and the dermatologist decides how many layers to apply depending on the problem. After a few minutes, with mandatory monitoring of the change in skin color, and after the desired effect is achieved, a neutralizer is applied using a tissue, and this completes the treatment.

The neutralizer is also a necessary after-treatment care, and an anti-inflammatory cream can be applied if necessary.

Chemical peeling is a medical procedure in which a selected chemical (glycolic, mandelic or other type of organic acid) is applied to the skin, with the aim of improving the condition of the skin.

After peeling, the epidermis is renewed and the architecture of the dermis is improved due to increased biosynthesis of collagen and hyaluronic acid, which means that skin remodeling occurs.

The effect of a chemical peel depends on the depth of the peel achieved, which depends on the choice of acid according to the indications to be treated.

Depending on the skin type, indication, and type of peel selected, chemical peeling is most often performed in several treatments spaced 7-14 days apart.

Recovery

Depending on the type of peel chosen and the depth achieved, redness and slight swelling may occur immediately after the treatment, which quickly subsides.

In a few days, visible peeling of the skin is possible, which will stop in the next few days. During this time, special skin care will be prescribed.

Today, we have peels available that cause less irritation and therefore less redness, while at the same time being extremely effective in terms of skin renewal and remodeling.

It is extremely important to follow your doctor’s recommendations after the procedure, which certainly includes using sunscreen with a high protection factor when outdoors.

Precautions

Treatment is not recommended in the following situations:

  • if you are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • if you suffer from immune diseases (systemic lupus, scleroderma);
  • if you have undergone surgery, radiation or laser treatment in the region where the peeling will be performed less than 6 months ago;
  • if you have a viral infection in the area being treated (eg Herpes Simplex);
  • If you are taking isotretinoin (Roaccutane), the procedure should be postponed for up to 6 months after stopping the medication.

The package at the Bagatin Polyclinic includes the price of the preparation itself, the preparation and treatment procedure, and, if necessary, a check-up after 2 weeks.

The most common indications include:

  • Acne and blackheads

  • Hyperpigmentation and melasma

  • Uneven complexion

  • Acne scars

  • Pores and skin texture

  • Fine lines and the first signs of aging

How many treatments are needed for results?

The treatment lasts between 20 and 40 minutes. You may feel a tingling, tightening or warmth, but the discomfort is short-lived. Mild redness or peeling of the skin is possible after the treatment.

Can peeling be done all year round?

Superficial peeling can be done throughout the year with mandatory sun protection (SPF 50) . Stronger peelings are recommended in the autumn-winter months, when there is less exposure to UV radiation.

What does recovery look like after treatment?

Depending on the type of peeling, it is possible to:

  • Redness (1-3 days)

  • Mild to moderate skin peeling (3-7 days)

  • Feeling of tightness
    During recovery, sun exposure, intense exercise, and the use of active ingredients (retinol, AHA, BHA) are not recommended.
