Laser removal of benign changes

Benign moles, xanthelasma, milia, warts, fibromas, sunspots, and seborrheic keratoses – these are all skin changes that can cause unpleasant aesthetic problems.

Most of these changes are benign and their removal does not pose any danger.

The great news is that with the Erbium laser MCL 31 Dermablate, the treatment to remove these changes is very simple, which means that it can be done with or without local anesthesia and without the need for special rest after the procedure.

Description of the procedure

Erbium laser technology represents the ultimate development of ablative surface laser systems and remains the gold standard in terms of removing benign moles, skin cysts, bumps, growths and facial skin rejuvenation.

The procedure is very fast and is performed under a small amount of local anesthesia.

Thanks to this innovative laser, a huge leap forward was achieved from the traditional method of removing benign moles, which was accompanied by stitches, frequent dressings of the wound and a much longer recovery.

Our dermatology team is made up of educated and experienced experts, or doctors, who know how to recognize the difference between benign and malignant moles and growths.

At the Bagatin Polyclinic, laser treatment for the removal of benign moles only applies to benign dome-shaped and spherical changes above the skin level.

In this case, post-procedure care is extremely simple; you just need a band-aid and a healing cream.

Details about this laser procedure, as well as the entire range of laser treatments and procedures at Bagatin Polyclinic, can be found in the Guide, which you can download from the link below.

Candidates

If you have noticed any benign change on your body such as benign moles, warts, xanthelasma, milia or fibroma, then you are a candidate for this procedure.

When it comes to benign moles, the ideal benign mole for laser removal is one that is raised and skin-colored, with no hair growing from it.

Therefore, at the Bagatin Polyclinic, laser treatment for the removal of benign moles only applies to benign dome-shaped and spherical changes above the skin level.

Dark and flat benign moles with hairs are less desirable for treatment because they usually have deeper roots.

They can still be treated with laser, very often with a high degree of success and satisfaction, but there is a greater chance of partial or complete return of benign moles and the need for additional laser treatment after a certain period of time.

If in doubt, we suggest visiting our dermatologists and surgeons who will best advise you on whether to undergo laser treatment or surgical removal, with a pathologist’s confirmation of the type of change.

Before the procedure, you can examine benign moles with a digital dermatoscope in our Polyclinic. This tool helps doctors distinguish melanocytic from non-melanocytic changes, and is of greatest importance in the early diagnosis of melanoma. It also helps diagnose the type of change and determine when a particular change needs to be removed.

Preparation

Just before the mole is removed, a small amount of local anesthetic is injected around or under the problematic mole. This is done with a thin precision needle.

Although the local anesthetic stings before the treated area becomes numb, any discomfort is temporary and minor.

The local anesthetic will instantly numb the benign mole or other lesion, making the laser treatment absolutely painless and without any discomfort.

Procedure progress

Laser removal works by having the water in your skin cells absorb focused laser light.

This absorbed energy then causes the targeted cells to instantly vaporize. As the laser passes over the skin, approximately 30 to 50 microns of tissue are removed at a time. This incredible control allows the doctor to precisely remove the skin lesion.

It is important to emphasize that during laser treatment, the skin change is completely removed at the microscopic level, which is why there is no possibility of sending the treated tissue to a pathologist for analysis to establish a definitive diagnosis.

Recovery

Recovery is very simple. Once the treatment is complete, it is important not to expose yourself to the sun’s ultraviolet radiation.

It is necessary to properly care for the treated area until the color of that part of the body matches the color of the rest of the skin.

If possible, you should avoid applying heavy cosmetics to the skin as they can cause a burning sensation.

Clients are recommended a specific cream to apply daily to the treated lesion, while the patch is usually used during the first day and at night for the next few days.

Skin changes on the face take approximately 5-7 days to recover, while changes on the body take a little longer, on average 10 to 16 days.

The recovery is very similar to that of scar healing: at first it looks like a wound, then it takes a week to heal, and then over the following months the pink color of the scar evens out with the skin color.

Make-up can be applied to the treated area one week after the procedure. It is important not to expose the treated area to the sun for the first three months.

Precautions

Complications after laser removal of benign moles are extremely rare.

Sometimes the surface of the treated skin may be slightly raised or lowered compared to the surrounding area, but this evens out over time.

Rubbing and scratching the treated area with your hands leads to inflammation and purulent secretion, which is why you should avoid running your fingers over the wound. Before each application of the cream, it is necessary to follow the hygienic rules of washing your hands.

If the root of a benign mole is not removed, it can reappear, but this is easily treated by repeating the procedure. It is extremely important to follow the doctor’s instructions in order to minimize complications.

In addition to laser removal of benign moles, the Polyclinic also offers Ellman radiofrequency removal. It removes only the skin lesion after local anesthesia is injected with a very thin needle under the growth. Immediately after treatment, a non-bleeding skin wound appears at the site of the growth, the same size as the removed growth.

Price

The package for the laser removal of skin lesions includes an examination, laser treatment of the lesion, treatment and a self-dressing kit with antibiotic cream.

In cooperation with banks, Bagatin Polyclinic provides the option of paying in installments, as well as interest-free payments up to a certain number of installments.
