Acne is a skin condition most commonly associated with puberty, but acne in adulthood also occurs for the same reason as in the teenage years.
The cause of its occurrence is a combination of the action of androgen hormones, the value of which in the blood is within normal limits, and the number of hormone receptors in the skin, which are determined genetically. The hormone, when it binds to the receptor, stimulates increased sebum secretion in the skin. Due to the disruption of the exfoliation of the surface layers of the skin, dead epithelial cells and sebum accumulate in the follicle, providing favorable conditions for the development of the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and the subsequent formation of comedones and acne.
A busy lifestyle, stress, and inadequate skin care can contribute to the additional formation of acne.
Acne is not just for teenagers, but is increasingly common in people in their 30s, 40s, and even 50s. It is estimated that 15% of women and 5% of men have acne as adults, and they often report that they did not have major acne problems as teenagers.
In adulthood, acne more often appears on the skin of the lower face, on the chin, and along the lower jaw.
Even people who have never had acne can develop skin with papules and nodules in adulthood. These changes occur due to various etiological factors, such as hormonal fluctuations during the cycle (especially a few days before menstruation), after stopping oral hormonal contraception, due to polycystic ovary syndrome, perimenopause and menopause. Also, stressful periods, such as during exam periods, taking certain medications, using inadequate care products, and others can cause acne in adulthood.
In order to significantly reduce the outbreak of new acne, and thus the appearance of later consequences – hyperpigmentation and scars, it is necessary to start treating acne as early as possible.
Laser treatment is a method that has proven to be very effective when it comes to acne, especially acne in which inflammatory processes are active.
Comedone or blackhead
Small white or black dots that are not inflamed.
Papule
Red pimple, in the inflammatory process.
Pustule
A red pimple with a white, purulent cap, in an inflammatory process.
At the Bagatin Polyclinic, we treat acne with a diode laser, which primarily removes bacteria in the subcutaneous tissue. It is ideal for all types of acne, both those in the inflammatory process and those that are not in the inflammatory process.
When there is active inflammation in the skin, it cannot be treated mechanically, as this would lead to even greater irritation. This is why the laser is an ideal solution for active inflammatory processes as it soothes the skin and removes bacteria that cause acne.
All stages of acne and any affected area can be treated. The face is most commonly treated, but the back, chest, or any other part of the body can also be affected.
Laser light only affects the inflammatory process and soothes the skin. Laser treatment also narrows pores, thereby reducing sebum secretion.
The treatment is completely painless, a slight burning sensation may be felt in the area where the inflammatory process is active. In the area where there is no inflammatory process, clients feel almost nothing.
Treatment is a process that requires good cooperation between a medical cosmetologist and/or dermatologist and the patient, which ensures effective control of the outbreak of new lesions. At the Bagatin Polyclinic, only people who are trained in working with lasers and understand the problem of acne can perform this treatment. All of our dermatologists and individual medical cosmetologists, after thorough training, have certificates for working with this laser obtained from the laser manufacturer itself and their official trainers. The Bagatin Polyclinic is also a reference center for the world-renowned laser manufacturer Asclepion.
They define a treatment plan individually for each client and monitor improvements week by week. Pores are narrowed, the face is cleansed, there are no new breakouts, and inflammations are receding.
When the problem is treated therapeutically, effective control of the disease is ensured, which also contributes to the self-confidence of every person with acne.
Candidates for laser acne treatment are just about anyone who has the problem of acne, whether with inflammatory or non-inflammatory processes, and with the secretion of excess sebum.
When consulting with our doctors and medical cosmetologists, it is recommended to have a scan performed on a facial skin analysis device so that we can obtain a professional analysis of your facial skin and a detailed insight into its current condition (pores, pigmentation, bacteria, damage).
If after the skin analysis you decide on laser acne treatment, the VISIA professional skin analysis will be included in the price of the treatment.
Before the treatment, the skin must be thoroughly cleaned and dried, remove make-up, creams, oils, topical anesthetics and/or self-tanning products, which is done by our medical cosmetologists and nurses. No additional preparation at home is required.
Facial cleansing takes place in two phases – in the first phase, make-up and all impurities are removed, and in the second phase, it tones the facial skin. For both phases, a line of preparations is used that will best suit the skin being treated, depending on the individual problems.
After detailed cleaning, and before the laser, enzymatic peeling follows.
Enzyme peeling is performed using Enzyme Powder mixed with Gentle pH Balancer. By mixing these two products, a foamy peeling is created that is massaged into the subcutaneous tissue for 3-5 minutes, during which the skin releases dead cells. The dead cells bind to the enzymes and, together with the peeling residue, are removed from the facial skin. After the peeling, the skin is clean and ready for laser treatment.
The water-based gel is applied in thick layers to the skin and eye protection is worn.
On the laser device itself, the medical cosmetologist, or rather, the doctor, selects a program for laser acne treatment.
On certain parts of the body, it is possible to feel a slight burning of the skin, which is why quick movements with the applicator are made for the purpose of prevention.
The laser is passed over the entire face area several times, in order to make sure that the entire area is properly and sufficiently treated with the laser beam.
After the treatment, slight redness may be noticed on the inflamed area, while there is absolutely no reaction on the other, non-inflamed areas.
In order to reduce even the slightest irritation, after the treatment, a Silver detox mask based on silver is applied to the face, which has an antibacterial effect, soothes the skin and soothes redness, and promotes tissue regeneration.
At the end of the treatment, a final care product is applied to the skin according to the skin type.
The entire treatment lasts 30-45 minutes, while the laser flash itself lasts about 5 minutes.
This is a really quick but effective treatment that gives visible results.
For best results, it is recommended to do a package of 4 treatments. Most often, the second treatment is repeated 4 days after the first, then the third treatment 7 days after the second, and the last treatment 14 days after the third. During this period, the problem is therapeutically affected and improvements can be noticed from week to week.
In cases where inflammatory acne has been resolved, we can use SkinPen or Reviderm Skin Needler therapy with microneedles, which stimulate the skin and collagen to natural self-renewal, to narrow the pores and prevent the formation of new acne, as well as to alleviate scars.
Results are visible after just a few treatments.
After the first flash, approximately 2 days after the treatment, the client may notice changes in the disappearance of redness, a reduction in irritation on the skin’s surface, and notice that there is no outbreak of new acne or inflammatory processes.
Since the skin is not irritated, it does not need to be cooled after the treatment.
It is advisable to avoid toners, various serums, scrubs, and heavy makeup until the skin has completely calmed down.
The treatment does not cause any unwanted consequences or side effects.
The laser recognizes only the inflammatory process in the skin and removes it along with the redness, while the rest of the skin remains intact and undamaged.
There are no possible contraindications, the laser does not cause the appearance of hyperpigmentation and other unwanted changes on the skin.
Acne is not caused by poor hygiene, and excessive cleansing and scrubbing of the skin with various irritating products (foams, soaps, gels, lotions) can worsen the skin condition and result in redness and peeling. Self-squeezing acne can also worsen the condition, i.e. cause an increased inflammatory reaction that can result in the formation of hyperpigmentation and new scars.
Direct sun exposure and tanning beds are not recommended for a few days after treatment. If the treatment plan is for several weeks, it is best to avoid the sun and tanning beds throughout the entire process.
It is necessary to use products with a protective factor every day in order to protect the skin from the sun and UV rays.
