Liposuction is one of the most popular and common procedures in cosmetic surgery. Liposuction can reduce and reshape a specific part of the body. This is a very successful method because it removes excess fat tissue from the body along with the cells in which the fat is deposited. If you maintain your weight and exercise regularly, you do not have to worry about the re-deposition of fat tissue in the most critical parts of the body. The parts of the body where liposuction is most often performed, in both women and men, are the abdomen, hips, upper arms, thighs, lower legs and buttocks. Liposuction is not a weight loss treatment, it is a method that serves to reshape individual parts of the body that are not proportional. The effects of liposuction are immediately visible, which has made it very popular among women and men.
It is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures that can truly reduce and reshape a specific part of the body. It is not usually a treatment for excess body weight, but rather a surgical method for removing fat deposits and reducing cellulite in areas where this cannot be achieved in any other way, resulting in a change in the contour (silhouette) of the body.
Good candidates for liposuction are men or women over 18 years of age, of normal weight, with elastic skin, and pockets of accumulated fat in specific areas of the body. It is very important to have realistic expectations about how the procedure can help us. When deciding whether or not to undergo liposuction, it is important to be familiar with all the facts so that you can make a healthy decision as a well-informed person. Make an appointment for a consultation at Bagatin Polyclinic, and we will help you find the best solution for you.
You should stop smoking four to six weeks before the procedure. Two weeks before, stop taking aspirin, herbal preparations or any other supplements and certain medications that prevent inflammation, as their content can cause significant bleeding.
On the day of your consultation with your doctor: prepare for your medical examination and discuss your expectations of the procedure with your doctor, be open about your medical history, drug and food allergies, with special emphasis on any medications you are currently taking, and explain to your doctor if you are under medical treatment. Dr. Bagatin will take several pre-surgical photographs to include in your medical records.
12 to 24 hours before the procedure: Wash your entire body thoroughly with antibacterial soap and leave the antibacterial soap lather on the area of the body that will undergo the procedure for about 10 minutes the night and morning before the procedure.
Eight hours before surgery: do not eat or drink, remove all jewelry, and remove nail polish from your fingers and toes.
The liposuction procedure is performed by a team of experts from the Bagatin Polyclinic, which varies depending on the part of the body from which excess fat deposits are removed. Liposuction is a very safe method, with a very low percentage of possible complications. First, a small incision is made to insert the cannula, and fluid may be added to reduce bleeding and discomfort.
Excess fat tissue is removed through cannulas, using back and forth movements with a fat suction device – a liposuction device. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, which means you are asleep during the procedure. You can find out more about the anesthesiology examination at our Polyclinic and the differences between general and local anesthesia here .
After the procedure, you will remain in a room at the Bagatin Polyclinic for observation. As soon as your condition stabilizes, you will go home. After liposuction, you will need to wear tight clothing that fits your body. The patient should wear tight clothing for at least 6 weeks after the procedure. You will be given intravenous painkillers. You should be careful because some people are very sensitive to painkillers and may experience nausea. You must inform the medical staff immediately. Postoperative recovery is relatively quick, however, scars and swelling may be present for six months to a year.
24 hours after the procedure: Start moving immediately to avoid complications.
On the day of discharge: You will receive written instructions on when and which antibiotics, analgesics and anti-inflammatory tablets you should take and you will be given an appointment for your first medical examination after the procedure. The wound will be disinfected, bandaged and you will wear a corset. You are not allowed to swim, use a wet towel for personal hygiene and practice only light physical exercises. You should wear compression garments (corsets) for at least 6 weeks to maintain and achieve the desired body shape.
7 days after the procedure: You will come for a follow-up medical examination. We expect you to stay in Zagreb and the surrounding area for at least 7 days to fully recover.
1-2 weeks after the procedure: You will feel pain for two to three weeks and this can be controlled by taking medications that we will recommend to you at the Bagatin Polyclinic along with instructions for use. For best results, it is necessary to massage the liposuction site.
The package includes: preoperative examination by an anesthesiologist, surgery under general anesthesia, a short stay at the Bagatin Polyclinic, necessary medications (antibiotics, analgesics), check-ups and dressings in the first postoperative days, removal of stitches, and necessary check-ups up to 3 months after the procedure.
The package does not include: the first consultation with a doctor, blood tests, ECG, chest X-ray, or an examination by an internist, the cost of one or more overnight stays, costs before admission to the Bagatin Polyclinic, telephone costs, medications that you will take at home, consultations with other specialists such as a specialist for diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, thyroid, allergy medicine, heart medicine, etc.
