Blepharoplasty removes the unwanted effects of aging, corrects drooping eyelids, eliminates bags under the eyes, and resolves excessively pronounced wrinkles.
Eyelid correction (blepharoplasty) is one of the most common rejuvenating procedures in aesthetic surgery and belongs to small and very effective aesthetic procedures.
In the hands of an experienced cosmetic surgeon, the procedure is performed without any major risk to the patient. Excess skin and fat tissue are precisely removed according to the measured and drawn shape.
During the examination and consultation with the doctor, along with an overview of your findings, you will receive all the required information and a proposal for the best eyelid correction method.
Candidates for blepharoplasty are:
Candidates can be both younger and older people, and blepharoplasty makes the entire face look fresher.
During consultations with Dr. Tomica Bagatin, a specialist in maxillofacial surgery, the patient receives a detailed insight into the entire procedure and the surgical options available given the problem.
A detailed preoperative examination is required, and the patient will receive more details from the medical staff at the Bagatin Polyclinic. The anesthesiologist will also go over the patient’s findings, list of allergies, and list of medications the patient is taking.
It is important to emphasize that 2 to 4 weeks before cosmetic eyelid surgery, it is necessary to stop taking painkillers, especially from the group of anti-inflammatory drugs that contain acetylsalicylic acid, such as Aspirin, Andol or Acisal.
Eyelid correction (blepharoplasty) is most often performed under local anesthesia, but it can also be done under general anesthesia.
You can find out more about the anesthesiology examination at our Polyclinic and the differences between general and local anesthesia here.
The procedure can last 1 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the problem, or whether it involves only upper or upper and lower eyelid correction.
Access to the fatty tissue of the upper and lower eyelid is made possible by incisions that follow natural skin folds and lines.
The surgical technique for the upper eyelids involves an incision within the natural crease of the eyelid, making it minimally visible. It may also be slightly visible on the outer part of the eyelid, up to the outer edge of the orbit. Another potential incision is above the eyebrow itself to raise the eyebrow.
The ‘islands’ of fatty tissue from the upper and lower eyelids are reduced or redirected, muscles are reduced, and excess skin is removed. Precise sutures ensure almost imperceptible scars after healing.
The stitches are removed 7 days after the surgery.
In some cases, other approaches are used. Eyelid correction is often (when necessary) performed in combination with other procedures such as face lifting or eyebrow lifting .

Eyelid correction is most often performed under local anesthesia.
Shortly after the procedure, the patient remains under the observation of a doctor at the Polyclinic.
In the first 24 hours, it is recommended to use cold compresses and rest in a semi-sitting position to minimize the possibility of swelling and hematoma. If necessary, the patient will receive antibiotic ointment.
Stitches are removed after 7 days, and daily activities can be returned to after 10 to 14 days.
As the wounds heal, your eyes may appear dry and you may feel a little itchy, in which case your doctor will recommend eye drops.
Complications are rare and manifest as temporary dry eyes, eyelid asymmetry, or noticeable scarring.
The doctor at the Bagatin Polyclinic will inform you about all potential complications and precautions during the consultation.
The package includes: surgery under local anesthesia, necessary medications (antibiotics, analgesics), check-ups and dressings in the first postoperative days, removal of stitches, and necessary check-ups up to 3 months after the procedure.
In cooperation with banks, Bagatin Polyclinic provides the option of paying in installments, as well as interest-free payments up to a certain number of installments.
