Locations
If you want to enlarge your beard to achieve a more harmonious facial appearance, alleviate the effects of aging, or need beard correction after an injury or illness, Bagatin Polyclinic has three methods available to you.
In the case when a larger procedure is required, we decide on surgical methods, that is jaw surgery. The first of them, osteotomy or sliding genioplasty, involves cutting the chin bone and moving it to a more adequate position.
Another method of chin surgery is the surgical installation of a silicone implant that will upgrade the chin, i.e. supplement the missing volume, correct asymmetries or other imperfections.
When a minor, non-invasive chin correction is needed, which allows us to increase the chin horizontally and vertically, define the line and fill the volume, we choose the non-surgical method, the injection of dermal fillers Volux or Radiesse .
A small and indented chin, an undefined jaw, asymmetry in the lower third of the face, a deformity from birth or injury. Furthermore, aging, when many people begin to lose definition around the chin, neck and jaw area, often changing the shape of the face – all these phenomena result in dissatisfaction with one’s own appearance. Aesthetic medicine today has come to the rescue of these ‘problems’ and offered numerous solutions.
Sliding genioplasty – osteotomy
Sometimes the best solution for chin correction is to move the bones of the face, that is, the chin into an optimal position. Jaw surgery is done by carefully cutting and moving the chin bone forward.
There are two ways to correct the chin – by moving the entire bone, starting from the cheek area, or by moving just the tip of the chin. Sometimes it is necessary to use both methods to achieve the desired results.
This type of correction, the so-called orthognathic surgery, recommended in the case when the chin is extremely retracted in relation to the rest of the face.
Chin implants
Chin implants are used to enlarge the chin or to correct the shape of the chin. Chin surgery is performed in such a way that through a small incision under the chin, the surgeon positions a silicone implant that will give the chin the necessary shape and volume.
Dermal fillers – a non-surgical method of chin correction
If there is no significant facial imbalance due to a reduced chin, dermal fillers for the chin are the ideal way to correct the appearance of the chin. At the Bagatin Polyclinic, we use Juvederm Volux and Merz Aesthetics Radiesse dermal fillers, which are specially created for chin and jaw shaping.
Volux behaves like a hyaluronic implant in that it imitates the structure of the bone and thus replaces the existing bone deformity.
It is denser, firmer, has greater elasticity and cohesiveness compared to the previous preparations, and therefore provides greater tissue displacement. It is also characterized by a longer duration than previous fillers on the market. Namely, it lasts up to two years, which guarantees long-lasting results and satisfaction.
Radiesse is the only injectable dermal filler for achieving clearly defined facial contours. It is made of calcium hydroxyapatite particles, which is a natural mineral in the human body and is denser than the surrounding tissue.
By breaking down naturally, it leaves behind active fibroblasts that produce collagen, thus contributing to longevity. Due to the stimulation of direct collagen production, it achieves excellent results precisely on the chin and lower jaw.
Chin correction methods and jaw surgery are suitable for people who have a congenitally smaller or more retracted chin, people who lose volume and clear definition of their chin due to the aging process, as well as people who have lost the harmonious appearance of their chin due to injury or illness.
Dermal fillers for the beard are often used by men, who emphasize their determined masculine appearance by better defining their chin and jawline.
If one of two surgical methods is required to achieve the desired results – genioplasty (osteotomy, jaw surgery) or implant placement, it is important to have an MSCT scan done beforehand, so that the doctor can get a clear view of the facial bone structure.
MSCT imaging is a painless, non-invasive diagnostic method that simultaneously shows bones, soft tissues, and blood vessels in the scanned part of the body. Based on the MSCT image, a complete preoperative examination, and the patient’s wishes, the doctor will suggest the procedure and explain the preparation, surgery, and recovery process.
No later than 48 hours before the surgery, it is important to undergo an anesthesiology examination and a review of your overall health, which you will undergo with the Bagatin Polyclinic’s anesthesiology team and which is included in the price of the procedure.
Also, an essential step is to take a picture on the Vectra XT 3D photostimulator, which will provide a unique view, or more precisely, a projection of your chin after the procedure.
Of course, if a non-surgical method is chosen for chin correction, injection of Juvederm Volux or Merz Aesthetics Radiesse dermal fillers, anesthesiological examination is not required.
Sliding genioplasty / osteotomy / chin surgery
After administering anesthesia, the surgeon will make an incision in the oral cavity to free the chin, then cut into the bone on both sides of the cheek, being careful not to damage the nerve. This will allow him to pull the chin bone forward, thus placing the chin in the desired position.
The new position of the chin is secured with titanium plates and screws that will not need to be removed later. Over time, the bone will grow and fill the space where the bone was cut and moved forward.
The procedure lasts approximately 90-120 minutes and is performed under general anesthesia. The patient stays at the Polyclinic for a few hours, and then goes to home care, with the note that he cannot drive himself, so transportation home needs to be organized.
Implant placement
This procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes about an hour and a half. Through a small incision under the chin, the surgeon creates a space for positioning the silicone implant in the desired position. If necessary, the implant is secured with sutures to the periosteum. Sometimes the implant is firmly in place where it was inserted, so additional fixation is not necessary.
Volux dermal fillers for the beard
Dermal Volux fillers for the chin are injected with very thin needles directly on the facial bone, with local anesthesia that will alleviate the stinging sensation itself. The preparation itself has an anesthetic, so the anesthesia will start to work when we start applying the filler.
The application is made along the chin and the entire lower jaw. Dermal filler in some way does myomodulation, that is, it blocks the function of the target muscles when we put it in the right region. If we put the preparation above the chin, it will lower our chin and prevent muscle function, i.e. change muscle function.
No recovery period is required – after this method, you can immediately resume your regular daily activities.
Radiesse dermal fillers for chin and jaw
Radiesse dermal fillers are the safest fillers in the world, and are injected with thin needles under the skin of the chin and along the entire lower jaw. Local anesthesia will relieve the stinging sensation.
Due to its exceptional cohesion, Radiesse stays firmly in the place where it is applied, thus creating support and structure. By applying linear rows of this dermal filler, the lines of the jaw and cheeks are clearly and sharply defined. Over time, they get better and better because the cross-linking of the resulting collagen fibers provides additional support to the resulting contour, thus strengthening the desired shape.
No recovery period is required – after this method, you can immediately resume your regular daily activities.
Minor to moderate pain can be expected after jaw surgery, which is controlled by prescribing analgesics by the surgeon.
To avoid damage and strain to the newly operated chin, it is recommended to eat softer foods that do not require chewing.
It’s important not to put pressure on your chin when sleeping – that’s why it’s ideal to sleep on your back, with your head elevated to prevent facial swelling. Hot drinks and food can contribute to swelling, so avoid them – as well as going out in the sun or in too hot rooms.
After an osteotomy, a plaster is worn for 5-7 days, and the stitches are removed after 7 to 14 days. It is not unusual for some minimal swelling or bruising to occur, but this is nothing to worry about. These are temporary symptoms and will usually resolve within two weeks.
When installing the implant, the stitches are removed between the fifth and seventh day after the operation, and the recovery is quick and easy. Similar instructions should be followed as in the case of osteotomy.
Injection of hyaluronic fillers does not require recovery and usually has no side effects, while the application of hydroxyapatite fillers activates the immune system, so mild swelling, redness, and transient irregularities can be expected within 24 to 48 hours after injection.
After the dermal filler procedure, you can immediately resume your daily activities.
Complications from osteotomy and implant surgery are extremely rare. Sometimes, mild swelling, hematoma formation, a feeling of weakness or numbness of the lower lip may occur, which may make it harder for the patient to smile or speak – but all of this is harmless and passes quickly.
As with all procedures, there is always a risk of infection, so it is necessary to take antibiotics and adhere to hygiene rules. In order for the bone to heal in the best possible way, it is important to follow the doctor’s instructions on diet, sleeping habits and any other instructions the doctor gives after discharge from the Polyclinic.
