Diagnostics with 3D imaging

Digital diagnostics are a crucial first step in any precise and effective dental therapy. Orthopantomogram (OPG) and 3D CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) scans provide detailed insight into the condition of teeth, bone, roots and surrounding structures. Orthopantomogram provides a panoramic view of the jaw and sinuses, while 3D CBCT enables three-dimensional visualization that is particularly useful in implantology, oral surgery, endodontics and orthodontics.

At the Bagatin Polyclinic, we use Planmeca ProMax® 3D Mid – one of the most modern devices for digital radiological diagnostics, which allows for precise analysis with minimal radiation dose.

No special preparation is required for orthopan or CBCT imaging, but before arrival it is recommended:

• Remove all metal objects from the head and neck area (earrings, chains, piercings, hairpins)

• Inform staff if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

• Bring previous recordings (if you have them) for comparison.

In the case of a 3D scan, the staff will inform you about the exact position of your head and any additional instructions.

The procedure only takes a few minutes and is completely painless.

1. Orthopan – the patient stands or sits, and the device rotates around the head to capture a panoramic view of the jaw.

2. CBCT 3D imaging – used when additional precision is needed, for example before implant placement. The device captures images of the jaw from different angles and reconstructs a three-dimensional view.
   The patient must remain still for a few seconds while the scan is taking place, and the images are available immediately after the procedure.

There is no recovery time after the scan – the patient can return to daily activities immediately. There is no discomfort or physical signs after the procedure.

• Pregnant women should avoid X-rays unless the dentist deems it extremely necessary (in which case a protective apron is used).

• People with metal implants in the head and neck should inform their dentist.

• It is important to be completely still during the recording so that the images are as accurate as possible.

• Radiation is minimal and within safety limits, but it is not recommended to repeat scans unnecessarily.
