What if the skin on our lower and upper eyelids starts to bother us?

As we age, the skin around our eyes becomes less elastic, resulting in wrinkles and drooping eyelids. You may think this is just an aesthetic problem, but it can also cause mild to serious vision problems, including dry eyes, sensitivity to light or wind, inflammation, and even vision loss.

At Bagatin Polyclinic, we offer non-surgical and surgical treatments that will give you a more youthful appearance by removing severe wrinkles and skin folds. You will feel younger and healthier with clearer vision and less irritation. At the same time, you will notice a significant difference when you look in the mirror.

What happens to the upper and lower eyelids over the years?

The skin on your upper eyelids doesn’t sag, wrinkle, or droop overnight. Over time, the skin sags and wrinkles, encroaching on your field of vision. Over time, even if you’re not concerned about looking old and tired, surgery will be necessary if you want to maintain your full range of vision. And while your upper eyelids can droop over your eyes, your lower eyelids tend to hang and sag away from your eyes. Because gravity pulls them down, they can’t properly protect your eyes. This can cause irritation, inflammation, and damage to your eyes.

Non-invasive treatments for early and intermediate stages of drooping eyelids

People with droopy eyelids usually have a choice, depending on the severity of the problem. If the stretching and sagging of the eyelids is not very pronounced, a simple treatment with facial wrinkle therapy and dermal fillers can solve the problem by filling the wrinkles and paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles and sagging skin. Dermal fillers will fill in areas of the face that lack volume and provide a smoothed appearance, while facial wrinkle therapy will block the movement of your forehead muscles, lifting the eyelids and opening the eyes, without affecting the sensory nerves or making you feel numb. It is very important to be treated by an experienced doctor who can judge the size of your muscles and how much facial wrinkle therapy you need, because when used correctly, facial wrinkle therapy can give your face an attractive appearance.

Facial wrinkle therapy has been used for more than 20 years in aesthetic surgery and medicine precisely as the most effective “eraser” of wrinkles in the areas around the eyes and on the forehead, for which it has an FDA safety certificate, while dermal hyaluronic fillers are ideal for filling small and accentuated wrinkles and areas on the face that lack volume. For milder forms of drooping of the upper or lower eyelids, this treatment is a quick and almost painless solution. However, it is not a permanent solution since the effect of the treatment wears off over time and additional treatments are needed every 4 to 6 months.

Another new treatment that is often mentioned when it comes to drooping eyelids is the Med Visage treatment with ultrasound and radiofrequency. With the help of these two powerful rejuvenation technologies, heat is created between the skin layer and the fat cell layer, which causes collagen bundles deep in the epidermis to contract and stimulate the production of new ones. Although you may notice an immediate tightening effect on the skin immediately after the treatment, Med Visage requires patience as the results of the treatment develop over time, as more collagen is created in the skin.

The end result is tighter, firmer eyelid skin. One of the great things about this treatment is that it doesn’t damage the skin, it’s painless (all you feel is warmth) and there’s no recovery time, meaning you can resume your daily activities immediately after the treatment. The treatment is so gentle and comfortable that it can be used on even the most sensitive skin around the eyes, and for best results, 3 to 5 treatments are needed, depending on the condition of your skin.

What if non-invasive treatments don’t help?

When the skin of the eyelids is very loose, at the Bagatin Polyclinic we recommend eyelid correction , also known as blepharoplasty. During this procedure, excess skin (as well as excess fat and muscle) is removed from the eyelids. In the upper eyelids, tissue that obstructs your field of vision is removed, and in the lower eyelids, tissue that pulls the eyelids down and away from the eye is removed. This procedure removes the unwanted effects of aging, corrects drooping eyelids, eliminates bags under the eyes, and resolves excessively pronounced wrinkles. It is one of the most common rejuvenation procedures in cosmetic surgery and is one of the small and very effective cosmetic procedures. Depending on the severity of the problem, it can be performed under general or local anesthesia, which we agree on during the consultation.
