How dental crowns are installed – procedure and results

A smile is one of the first things we notice about other people, just as others notice it about us. A beautiful smile significantly affects our self-confidence, we laugh more and behave differently in society, and in addition to the aesthetic component, it also plays a major role when it comes to health.

dental implants experience

The impaired quality and appearance of teeth impairs both our health and our quality of life, which is why more and more people are choosing to have crowns made. One of them is our client Ivana, who was extremely unhappy with her teeth.

Crowns are the most common prosthetic solution in cases of functional or aesthetic tooth damage. They are made of ceramic that perfectly imitates the color of the tooth, while the crown itself protects the tooth from further damage and prevents its decay.

We also use ceramic crowns to correct the appearance and color of teeth to achieve a beautiful and natural smile.

Choosing the right ceramic crown

Before each procedure, we pay great attention to identifying the problem and listening to the patient’s wishes. That is why we start the process with an orthopan or CBCT scan. After the scan, the dentist examines the scans in detail, talks to the patient, and after examining the oral cavity, a treatment proposal is made.

After we made a treatment proposal, we took an impression of Ivana’s teeth and in the laboratory, on the cast working models, we modeled the desired appearance of the crowns in wax. Using a silicone key in the patient’s mouth, we created the appearance of the future crowns from temporary material. We printed a key (mold) on the modeled wax crowns.

This gave Ivana the opportunity to see what her future crowns would look like and whether they would suit her smile. We further sanded, built upon, and adjusted the temporary material until we had a shape that Ivana was happy with.

Preparation for crown placement – whitening

At Ivana’s next visit, we whitened her lower teeth because we decided to have crowns placed in her upper jaw. In many cases, this means sandblasting and/or teeth whitening to ultimately make the entire smile even and beautiful.

Preparation for crown placement – grinding

Under local anesthesia, on our next visit, we filed Ivana’s teeth and took an impression, which we then sent to the lab. What bothers many of our clients is the process between filing the teeth and placing the crowns, but don’t worry – the client never leaves the office without provisional (temporary) crowns.

Placing crowns

After the teeth are ground and an impression is taken, it’s time for a fitting. Ceramic crowns are placed on the prepared teeth, and over the next two to three visits, when we have achieved the desired function, the crowns are permanently cemented. It is important to note that the process itself is painless because everything is done under local anesthesia.

Ivana came to the Bagatin Polyclinic with the desire for a complete makeover of her smile, and after a detailed examination and the creation of crowns, Ivana was given back the smile she had long dreamed of.

“I am extremely satisfied with the end result, the doctors, and the entire service of the Polyclinic. The entire process of placing the crowns was quick and painless, and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to put a smile back on their face,” revealed Ivana.

The dental team behind Ivana’s smile consists of Dr. Marin Radić, Dr. Ivan Sertić, and dental assistant Sandra Knežević.
