If you have experienced significant weight loss, muscle loss, or skin tone loss, you may have noticed a change in the appearance of your legs. Exercise, a healthy diet, and an active lifestyle can go a long way toward toning your body, but sometimes that’s simply not enough to achieve the desired appearance. Excess skin on your legs is a problem that more and more people are facing, and today’s aesthetic medicine is increasingly dedicated to addressing this issue.

Why does excess skin form on the legs?
The skin is the largest organ of the human body – it covers as much as 1.5 to 2 m² of body surface, which makes up about 16% of the total body mass. It protects internal tissues and organs from mechanical injuries and harmful effects of external factors, receives and conducts various stimuli, actively participates in gas exchange, i.e. in the breathing process, and in the regulation of body heat.
The deepest layer of our skin is made up of proteins, including collagen and elastin. Collagen, which makes up 80% of the skin’s structure, provides firmness and strength. Elastin gives elasticity and helps our skin stay taut. That’s why when dealing with the problem of excess skin, we specifically focus on stimulating the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.
Excess skin on the thighs can be the result of several factors, the most common of which are loss of body or muscle mass, or simply genetics.
During weight gain, the skin expands to make room for increased growth. Pregnancy is also an example of this expansion. The expansion of the skin during pregnancy occurs over a period of several months. The expanded skin usually shrinks a few months after delivery.
In contrast, when the skin is significantly stretched and remains stretched for a long time, the collagen and elastin fibers become damaged. As a result, they lose some of their ability to retract.
Consequently, with significant weight loss, excess skin may form on the legs.
There are several factors that contribute to the appearance of loose skin on the legs after weight loss:
In general, the longer a person is overweight or struggles with obesity, the more saggy their skin will be after losing weight due to the loss of elastin and collagen.
Weight loss of 45 kg or more usually results in a greater amount of loose skin than more moderate weight loss.
Older skin has less collagen than younger skin and is usually looser after weight loss.
Genes can affect how our skin reacts to weight gain and loss.
Chronic sun exposure has been shown to reduce the production of collagen and elastin in the skin, which can contribute to sagging skin.
Smoking leads to decreased collagen production and damage to existing collagen, resulting in sagging, loose skin.
Fortunately, modern aesthetic cosmetology and medicine offer numerous solutions, and at the Bagatin Polyclinic we offer solutions for all body problems and, depending on the client’s needs, we can choose the best method for loose and excess skin on the legs.
How to remove excess skin on the legs?
For excess skin on the legs, it is possible to use non-invasive and surgical methods, and this is decided depending on your own problems in consultation with a professional.
Non-invasive methods offer a wide selection of treatments and devices that target exactly the problem of excess skin, and often have multiple effects.
ADIPOLOGY
When it comes to non-invasive body shaping treatments, Adipologie is a must-have. This latest-generation device is a safe and painless technology that uses ultrasound to target areas such as the abdomen, thighs, knees, upper arms, back, and buttocks, reaching deep into fat cells while simultaneously creating collagen in the hypodermis, tightening the skin.

After treatment with the Adipologie device, you can expect a reduction in leg circumference and tightened thigh skin.
MED CONTOUR MULTIPOWER
Thanks to ultrasound, with the goal of efficient, safe and painless non-surgical body reshaping, the Med Contour device successfully overcomes the tasks of removing cellulite and tightening the skin of the body.
Our Polyclinic is one of the first in the world to introduce the latest generation of this treatment into its offering, and to this day we have numerous satisfied clients who have confirmed its benefits for skin tightening.

EMERALD COLD LASER
Non-invasive cold lasers for body shaping effectively and completely painlessly, quickly and 100% safely remove fat deposits and tighten the skin.
Zerona uses the so-called Erchonia® Green Laser Scanner, that is, it emulsifies fat by creating a pore on the fat cell through which the contents of the fat cell are excreted via the lymphatic system. The best results will be achieved on the abdomen, hips and thighs.

The innovative Emerald works on the principle of ten diode heads from which laser beams precisely find and reduce the fat cell, extracting fat and all unnecessary fluid from it without damaging the cell itself. It is possible to treat several different areas in just one treatment.
VENUS LEGACY MULTIPOLAR RADIO FREQUENCY
One of the most popular body shaping and skin tightening treatments – Venus Legacy – provides exceptional results in the fight against sagging skin, cellulite, excessive fat deposits or stretch mark problems.
Thanks to the thermal reaction that multipolar radio frequency creates in the tissue, it stimulates the body’s natural healing, which creates new collagen, as well as new elastin fibers.

In this way, without pain, discomfort or recovery time, it solves the problem of sagging skin on the arms, thighs, abdomen, back, hips and buttocks.
Surgical thigh lift
If your problem requires a surgical solution, it is best to seek the advice of a cosmetic surgeon and a suggestion for the best path to the desired result.
A thigh lift is performed to tighten the skin of the inner thighs, giving the area a more aesthetically pleasing and toned appearance.
The thigh lift and tightening procedure is performed under general anesthesia and involves an incision in the area from the groin to the knee – loose excess skin and flaccid fatty tissue are removed.
Recovery depends on the amount of skin removed, and according to the surgeon’s instructions, you will need to rest, use painkillers and anti-inflammatory therapy, and antibiotics.
The results are therefore visible immediately, and as the swelling decreases and the wound heals under professional guidance, they will continue to improve. Furthermore, by practicing healthy lifestyle habits, your complexes related to the appearance of your legs will disappear and you will be able to boast toned and beautifully shaped legs.
Candidates for this procedure can be both women and men in good general health. Most often, patients are in their late forties or older. The excess skin that causes them is most often the result of significant weight loss, pregnancy (or multiple pregnancies), and aging.
This type of surgical procedure should not be considered an easy solution, but requires thorough patient evaluation, good preparation, and certainly communication about realistic expectations – similar to all aesthetic procedures.

Surgical removal of excess skin with a thigh lift can be performed on its own or in combination with other cosmetic procedures, such as a buttock lift. Your surgeon will explain to you which alternative body contouring methods are recommended for you and discuss with you the possible combinations of procedures that would achieve the best results.
If your decision to remove excess skin on your legs is a surgical procedure, we will provide you with an anesthesiology examination, surgery under general anesthesia, postoperative care and a short stay at the Bagatin Polyclinic, a compression corset, all necessary medications, removal of stitches and dressings, and check-ups for up to 3 months after the procedure.
Top experts at the Bagatin Polyclinic are at your disposal for all advice and recommendations when choosing the ideal treatment, procedure, or combination thereof. We carefully approach your issues, create an individual and optimal treatment plan, and monitor your progress throughout the process to ensure that you leave our doors satisfied.
