A dental bridge is a type of permanent prosthetic work used to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge consists of two or more interconnected crowns that are fixedly attached to natural teeth or implants on either side of the gap.
In the event that a person is missing one tooth, a three-unit bridge is made and fixed to the two adjacent healthy teeth.
When three teeth are missing, a dental bridge can also be made, in which case two implants are first placed, which will later serve as bridge supports.
Bridges can have multiple members and can be fixed to teeth or implants using the same principle.
Patients who are missing more than one tooth in a row and patients who are missing one tooth and the surrounding two teeth are superficially damaged or aesthetically unacceptable.
During the first examination and after a detailed diagnosis, our dentist will perform a complete oral cavity examination. Before starting the dental bridge, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the teeth of tartar and repair any cavities on them.
If natural teeth are used as abutments, they must first be ground down to create space for the crowns. In the event that implants are required, they must first be placed and integrated with the bone.
After preparing the abutments, impressions are taken and sent to a dental laboratory for bridge fabrication.
While the permanent bridge is being made, the patient is given a temporary bridge to protect the prepared teeth and maintain chewing function.
When the permanent bridge is ready, the dentist places it and checks the fit, function and aesthetics. If everything fits, the bridge is permanently cemented to the supports.
Recovery after dental bridge placement is usually short.
There may be mild discomfort or sensitivity, especially to cold or heat, in the first few days. This can be relieved with mild analgesics.
Maintaining good oral hygiene includes regular brushing, flossing, and using interdental brushes to clean under the bridge.
Avoid hard and sticky foods that can damage the bridge.
Regular inspections help monitor the condition of the bridge and early detection of potential problems.
Adequate oral hygiene combined with an examination at the dentist every 6 months will ensure the longevity of your prosthetic work.
