Venerological examination

Venerology is a branch of medicine that deals with the research, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. Venerological examination with the clinical examination of the anogenital region, examination of whole skin and visible mucous membranes often includes screening for all the most common sexually transmitted diseases for which mostly molecular biology methods are used.

Sexually transmitted infection is mainly transmitted by genital contact. Indicate the presence of potential pathogens in the body and the possibility of transmitting the infection to sexual partners. Young people are particularly vulnerable, and anyone can become infected during unprotected (without a condom) vaginal, oral or anal intercourse with an infected person. Often, especially in the beginning of the infection there are no symptoms or they are very slight, so that the disease is discovered  late. With the appearance of any symptoms of sexually transmitted infections, contact your doctor immediately:

  • increased or changed discharge from the vagina, penis or anus;
  • sensitivity, burning, or itching in the genital and / or anal area;
  • burning sensation, burning, pain and / or irritation during or after urination;
  • sensitivity and pain during sexual intercourse;
  • pain and swelling in the groin;
  • pain and tenderness in the lower abdomen;
  • developing ulcers, warts, blisters or any lumps and changes in sexual organs, genital or anal area and/or mouth.

The causes of sexually transmitted infections can be:

  • bacteria (Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Treponema pallidum, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Mycoplasma hominis);
  • parasites (scabies, pubic lice), protozoa (Trichominas vaginalis) and
  • viruses like human papillomavirus, hepatitis B virus, herpes simplex and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus).
